The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is located at Powai, which is an eastern suburb in the North-Eastern part of Mumbai.

Public Transport:
Mumbai has a reliable public transport networked by Mumbai Suburban Railway, BEST Buses, Taxis and Auto rickshaws (Auto rickshaws, however do not ply further south than Sion and Bandra).
The nearest suburban railway stations to IIT on the Central line (connecting CST, Dadar, Kurla, Thane and Kalyan) are Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg stations. The nearest station to IIT on the Western line (connecting Church-gate, Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri and Borivli) is Andheri.

Suburban Railway Transport:

From CST Station/Dadar - Central line:
Take a slow train on the Central line to Thane/Kalyan/Karjat. Get down at Vikhroli or Kanjurmarg station. Take an auto to IIT, Powai fare up to Rs 25. It is about 3-4 kilometers long distance.

Alternatively, you can get down at Dadar station and change platform to the central line. Take a slow train on the line to Thane/Kalyan/Karjat. Get down at Vikhroli or Kanjurmarg station. Take an auto to IIT, Powai fare up to Rs 25. It is about 3-4 kilometers long distance.

From Mumbai Central/Church Gate - Western line :
Take a fast or slow train on the Western line to Andheri/Borivli/Virar. Get down at Andheri Station and come towards the East side of the station. Take bus or auto (fare up to Rs 100) or taxi (fare up to Rs 300) to IIT, Powai. It is about 30 kilometers long distance.

If you come by Air:
International flights land at Sahar Airport which is about 8 kms from IIT. The domestic airport- at SantaCruz is about 12 kilometers. It is best to take a pre-paid taxi (costs about Rs 350 - 500 (US $ 8.00 -12.00) for reaching IIT Bombay, Powai. Auto rickshaws and regular taxis are also available at both the airports.

The climate in Mumbai throughout the year is temperate - from being hot and humid in summer to being pleasant in winter. It's neither too hot nor too cold. It rains quite heavily during the monsoon months of June, July and August. The climate is cooler inside the IIT campus, owing largely to its rich flora, and its location between the Powai and Vihar Lakes.

Winter in Mumbai:
During December and January the climate in Mumbai is pleasant. The air temperature will be around 25 degree centigrade (75% relative humidity) in the daytime and around 15 degree centigrade at night.

Summer in Mumbai:
During May and June the climate is hot and humid in the afternoons. The air temperature will be around 35 degree centigrade (90% relative humidity) in the daytime and around 25 degree centigrade at night.

Monsoon in Mumbai:
The monsoon rains hit Mumbai in the month of June. The rains are quite heavy and last till the end of August. The climate becomes pleasant. The air temperature will be around 30 degree centigrade (80% relative humidity) in the daytime and around 20 degree centigrade at night.
